    • Justice S. Vaidyanathan, B.A., B.L., was born on 17th August, 1962 at Coimbatore. He did his schooling in Singaram Pillai High School Villivakkam, Chennai and graduation in B.A. (Economics) at D.G.Vaishnav College, Arumbakkam during 1979-82. He did B.L. in Madras Law College (now known as Dr.Ambedkar Government Law College) during 1982-85 and Post Graduate Diploma in Personal Management, Labour Welfare and Industrial Relations in 1986. He got enrolled as an Advocate on 27th August 1986. He practiced in the High Court of Judicature at Madras, where his paternal grandfather Sri L.S.Vaidyanathan served as a Superintendent, Copyist Section and retired in the year 1952. His father, Sri V.Subramanian started his life as a shoe polish seller and later grew to be a committed trade unionist and the founder member of the first white-collared Employees’ Union in 1946, viz., Madras Commercial Employees Union in this city of Madras under the leadership of Sri R.Venkataraman, who later became the President of India. He served as an Editor of Labour Law Books published by Madras Book Agency. He was elevated on 25.10.2013 as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Judicature at Madras and became a permanent Judge of this Court on 14.04.2015. His Lordship was appointed as Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya on 2nd February, 2024 and took oath on 11th February, 2024.
